From public garden -- this is the same type of flower that yesterday's little bug [LINK] was sitting on -- shows the size difference!

Also, from comment discussions the other day, the black locust tree's sweet-smelling blooms (taken 2007-06-03):

And b/c it's cloud blogging (taken 2007-05-22):

Have a good w/e everyone!

Oops ... had sweet-swelling ... instead of sweet-smelling ... LOL

I'm using the first spot today to point out my errors ... :)

Woohoo, Number Two! (unless someone sneaks in front of me...)

That black locust is really cool. And is that a moth on the flower?

I liked "sweet-swelling." That was true, too. :)

Your photos have such amazing clarity.

Happy weekend, O & all. I'm traveling next week.

It could've been worse - "sweat-smelling" during the summer is never a good thing :)

Buenos Dias!

Hi there FAR! I thought it was a moth and had labelled it as such over at Flickr, but Mean & Pinchy identified it as a grass skipper butterfly ... And after a quick google, I think it might be a Least Skipper butterfly: [LINK]?

Do you remember those little packets of candy you could buy, that had 2 pouches of sugar crystals and one once pouch w/ a hard candy dipstick? That's what these flowers smelled like ... a very sweet, but faint, smell that wafted on the breeze.

LOL kansas ... happy w/e to you, and safe and fun travels next week! xoxox

LOL Manny!! That is too true ... :D

Lik-M-Aid ! I still eat that stuff from time to time, but I get the big pack that has three sugar flavors and double dipsticks.

Hi Jen ... that's it!

This is what they looked like up here: [LINK] ... Fun Dip ... I remember they cost 10 cents a packet, and what a grand treat it was to walk down to the island store (our cottage is on an island) and buy them during the summer when I was a little kid. I was never a big candy fan -- ice cream and chocolate were my thing -- but I always loved those Fun Dips! :)

Wow! Cool critter and excellent photography. I love seeing that more disk flowers are open on this flower. They are really pretty. What a lovely composition. Maybe that's why the family is called compositae. ?? The black locust blossoms...mmmm, I can almost smell them and the clouds are lovely too.

You had dipsticks, young'uns? Wow, what will they think of next. We didn't have dipsticks and had to use our fingers, or pour it out in the palms of our hands and lick it up. Purple fingers, pink palms. I loved that stuff.

While walking three miles in the snow to school.

kansas (no, really, it's true about the fingers)

Sweet swelling... lol!

Hi. :) Just barging in, as usual.

That little wee bug yesterday was adorable! I love the Black Locust flowers. I have a purple robe locust in my yard; I live under it in the spring. I'll have to post some pics. Not of me living... lol, but of the blossoms. Too bad we can't post scratch 'n sniff.

Mmmmm... LikMAid!

I think of Texas when I see the Black Locusts - there's a huge grove of them in a campground near San Antonio. Gorgeous, as your pics show - and the scent just makes you drunk, it is so strong. Lovely mot-er, butterly (I thought it was a moth, also!). 'Night. Olivia

Now that's interesting... what's the line the separates moths from butterflies? I would have thought these "skipper" things were on the moth side.

My dad is the one who's the amateur entomologist... you kind of have to be one if you're a serious fly fisherman.

Gee Kansas, I bet when you were a kid you & your friends had very sticky palm pilots and sugary iPods. ;p Hope you have a great trip next week, safe travels.

LOL, Jen! Yeah, and my dad just hated picking up the sticky remote. Oh, wait, we didn't have television.

The furry little hairs show up well on the Least Skipper. It's great the way this shot captures the details of this guy.
