Sometimes I stop, stunned suddenly to discover dazzling things the existence of which I never suspected. {Monet}

Vancouver reflection
Notes: 2007-11-24 Vancouver Nikon D70s 18-200mm @18mm 1/40s ƒ22 iso200 polarizing filter Click image for larger view Bit blown out on the right - need to work on exposure settings next
Now here you've captured the feel of some of the old masters. I'm not knowledgeable of which "old master" does which style of painting, but I recognize that this is reminiscent of one of them. Is that a weird compliment, or what? :-)
Wow howdy there Miss Monet! Fantastic view you capture there... love love love the reflections of the clouds! Made me feel better after a very long, grueling day (and gruel for dinner tonight, hehe).
Just a quick hello from cubihell freezer compartment. That's where I'll be until well into next Jan... ack.
Olivia, I don`t see it as burnt out either. It`s the light source for everything in the shot. What I like the most is just the subtle wavyness of the reflection. Very nice shot. Changing the settings might have made the opposite edge too dark. Corrections in the "darkroom" are dodge & burn. This shot needs none of the above imho.
Your comment made me laugh when I read it earlier today (didn't get a chance to reply) and it was definitely one of those days where laughs are few and far between ... :)
Good to see you popping out from the cubsicle for a brief moment ... Have been wondering how you're faring -- picturing you piled up w/ papers to your ears and icicles hanging off your nose ... :)
I hope you're getting a nice break off at Christmas.
Always happy to supply smiles. That makes me happy. I agree with KH, no adjustments needed. I don't know what "blown out" means but this photo ain't. :-)
I just got back from the dentist so I'm all numb. Thankfully novacaine doesn't affect my fingers. It affects my brain but not my finters (fingers) oops I guess it does affect my digits. ;-)
Since I'm still numb, I'll work on my French for my lesson tonight instead of eating supper. Maybe it will help my pronounciation. :-) I have always wanted to learn French. This is my second time through beginner level conversational. Oh me. I just don't do my homework. For shame.
lol P4 ... good idea -- sometimes that's the hardest part when learning a new language -- the physical form of the mouth (and other structures). Do you speak other languages?
Hi, O. Other languages? No. Just American style English and Gutter. :-)
I figure French will help when we move to The Land of the Free (CA) Gooserock can read and understand spoken French but he has trouble with pronunciation. Do you speak any other languages beside English?
Olivia - What I see is an impressionist painting. Am from Vancouver and this is a brilliant view. Wish I had known you were here. Went to the OKeeffe show yesterday, my soul will be full for a few days. I 'love' your photos and am grateful you post. And no am not a groupy but your community is precious. Spirit

I'm not big on city pics but that one (and the previous one) are as gorgeous as any cityscape shot can get.
I love waterfront shots. And waterfronts in general.
That's just gorgeous.
I think it looks great "blown out", gives the hint of where the sun is lurking/bringing light to the world.

It's a wonderful photo, O. Congrats!

Hi Andi.
Now, that's a compliment ... ;)
Hi FAR.
This one was nice b/c just behind me and to the left of the frame was Stanley Park ... best of both. :)
Hiya Nancy!
Hi Manny.
True ... that is true ... and it was one of those break-in-the-clouds moments too ... after having been overcast for the morning.
LOL P4!

Here's to a smiley day tomorrow.
Hi there Head.
Good to get all your perspectives on that ... Sometimes it's hard to be objective when I look at it too much.
Dodge and burn -- I'll have to check those settings out. It sounds familiar from reading on the net ... :)
LOL P4 -- there's another ... thank you!
Yep -- here's to a smiley tomorrow ... :)

The dentist eh ... novocaine ... ::shudder::

This is a beautiful photo, Olivia. I love the rhythm of the buildings, especially against that wonderful sky.
Beautiful picture with the reflection of the city Olivia.

Thanks b2 ... I liked the way the water rippled to give the masts and clouds a softer look.
